Dr. Ashe, you treated my partner Tim when you were in Colorado. We both know that without your knowledgeable care, he would not be alive and thriving today. Thanks for everything!

When I first went to see Dr. Ashe, I had exhausted every pharmaceutical option for my rheumatoid arthritis, save a very toxic monthly infusion. I was determined to explore everything I could before resigning myself to having poison pumped into my body for the rest of my life.
At my first meeting with Dr. Ashe, she listened with such a calm and keen attunement, that I was put immediately at ease and felt us to be allies in trying to figure out how best to approach the needs of my body. Dr. Ashe does not approach medicine as a way to medicate symptoms, but to unearth the root causes of those symptom and find skillful ways to address them.
Dr. Ashe practices medicine with a mutuality and sense of respect for her patients. She is widely and deeply knowledgeable about current research and practice and works to befriend the body rather than fight with it.
She is generous with her time and information, thorough in her process of learning the unique physical, psychological and genetic history of her patients. Probably the most important descriptor I can use about Dr. Ashe is that she is a healer. Smart, compassionate, collaborative and respectful.
Thanks to her and the work we have done together, I am no longer taking any western medicine at all. The changes in diet, coupled with supplements, have left me strong, pain-free, energetic and grateful.

I wanted to see Dr. M. Ashe because a friend had achieved such positive results from Dr. Ashe’s care and interventions. I had been diagnosed with oral cancer in September 2011, after being followed for 8 years for the management of precancerous changes in my mouth. After tongue surgery, I was seen every 3 months and needed several more biopsies. I wanted another approach!
Dr. Ashe requests a lengthy health history before your first visit. Therefore, she is prepared to make recommendations on your first visit. Her first suggestion was dietary: no dairy or grains. There goes bread, granola, yogurt, cheese, milk; some of the staples of my diet.
When I saw the oral surgeon 4 months later, he was amazed at the improvement of my oral mucosa and now wants to refer other patients to her care!
Because of the significant positive changes in my health, the diet restrictions are not a problem.
My visits with Dr. Ashe are infrequent, but we can communicate by email and make necessary adjustments. I would highly recommend Dr. M. Ashe and her approach to solving challenging health problems and achieving greater health and well-being.

Max’s testimonial:
Max and his mother came to see me for allergies that seemed to require ever increasing amounts of medication. The approach to this is an elimination diet, but that is often not enough. In this case, during the visit, I noticed some signs that Max might be having pre-diabetes, even though the family diet was low in sugar and refined flour. Max went back to Kaiser to have blood tests covered by insurance. The family has focused on correcting the blood sugar so far and have not done a full elimination diet. His mother wrote:
“Regardless of what transpires with Max's allergy symptoms after the upcoming food trial, I am so grateful that at our first visit you immediately suspected high blood sugar, based on family history and your thorough intake interview. No other doctor ever suggested exploring the blood sugar angle. Max's tests in fact did reveal high blood sugar, and low vitamin D levels, but not low enough to raise alarms for our Kaiser doctor. We would have never tested either, had it not been for your insights. Through your dietary and supplement recommendations, Max's blood sugar has dropped from pre-diabetic to normal over six months, and his Vitamin D level has risen. Moreover, because you suggested high sugar issues for the family, we learned that all members of our family in fact have high blood sugar levels. Applying your general dietary guidelines to all of the family has helped decrease our sugar levels as well. THANK YOU!”

“Since the fall, the whole family has made dietary changes. Max also started the supplements you recommended. During this period his allergy symptoms lessened, and other than dry toes, had no other eczema outbreaks. He was off both Flonase and Zyrtec during this time, until he developed a case of RSV in February and needed to go on inhalers and Flonase for a week or so. Since then, it has been high pollen season, but symptoms are still generally milder than when he first saw you over the summer. Our next step is a more complete elimination diet.”

I took my son to Dr. Ashe to have additional tests that conventional doctors won’t/can’t do to get information on possible causes why he is small for his age. After running a series of tests, we were shocked to learn that he has a significant gluten sensitivity that didn’t show up when running tests with Kaiser. After removing gluten from his diet, he quickly gained some weight and was growing faster than he had in the past. We were really tankful to Dr. Ashe for taking the time to see our son and give us some concrete in information to benefit his health.

I turned to Dr. Ashe and functional medicine almost by accident. As a 26 year-old woman I was searching for a way to manage my Lupus through lifestyle modifications as opposed to more and more medications, which led me here. Functional medicine and the lifestyle changes it encourages are not easy. However, Dr. Ashe serves as a steady resource and support throughout the process, because a process is exactly what this is! Dr. Ashe is incredibly accessible and it is clear how much she cares. Working with her has encouraged me to continually educate myself about unconventional methods for treating autoimmune diseases, like Lupus, and my symptoms have decreased in frequency and intensity. I am much more aware of my symptoms when they do appear and look for what may have caused the underlying inflammation that led to those symptoms. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Ashe and her functional medicine approach.

Dr. Ashe is a very knowledgable and compassionate MD. Her expertise in functional medicine has help me to discontinue pain medications, sleep better and have more energy. I would recommend her "healing" to anyone who is looking for an alternative to the dead end so many of us find with "traditional doctoring".

I appreciate Dr. Ashe's service delivery model. You can work with her regardless of where you reside. We live in the East Bay and it would have been challenging to see her in-person for all of our communications. We saw her once for the initial visit, where Dr. Ashe's did a very thorough intake, and after that we communicated via email and phone. Dr. Ashe is very responsive and provides detailed instructions, so we were able to implement her recommendations without any problems.
